What Is the PSL Scale?

The PSL scale is an informal face-rating scale from online looksmaxxing communities. It usually runs from 1 to 8 with about 4 as average, and it is much stricter than a 1-10 attractiveness score: most everyday faces land between 3.5 and 5, and anything above 6 is rare. The name comes from the early looks-rating forums where the scale started.

This PSL scale test is a PSL rater powered by AI. Upload a front-facing photo and the PSL rating AI reads your face with the criteria the community uses (canthal tilt, facial thirds, midface ratio, jawline and gonial angle, chin projection, eye area and brow ridge, lips and philtrum, and skin), then gives you a PSL score, a tier, eight sub-scores with notes and five looksmaxxing tips.

Whether you call it a looksmaxxing test, a looksmaxing test or simply a PSL test, keep it in perspective. An AI PSL rating describes one photo in one light, it is made for adults 18 and over, and it is meant for fun and self-improvement, not as a verdict on your worth. The tips stick to things you can change safely: skincare, grooming, haircut, brows, posture, lighting and camera angle. No surgery, no injections.

PSL Scale Tiers Explained

The PSL scale is stricter than a 1-10 face rating. These are the tiers the PSL rater uses, in plain words.

PSL scoreTierWhat it usually means
7.0 – 8.0ExceptionalVery rare. Model-level structure, in a photo that shows it off.
6.0 – 6.9Very attractiveRare. Strong bone structure and harmony across most criteria.
5.0 – 5.9Above averageClearly above the typical range, with a few standout features.
3.5 – 4.9TypicalWhere most everyday faces land. Photo conditions move scores in this range a lot.
2.5 – 3.4Below typical in this photoOften a sign of harsh light, a close wide-angle shot, blur or a tilted head. Retake before judging.

The tier wording in your report is written by the AI and can differ slightly. The rater never scores below 2.5. PSL tiers are a community convention, not a measurement, and we keep their names neutral.

Your PSL Score, Tier and Eight Sub-Scores

Every PSL test face rating comes as a score on the PSL scale, a plain-language tier and eight criteria scored 1-10, each with a note written for your photo. You see exactly where the number comes from instead of a bare score.

Canthal Tilt, Facial Thirds and Midface Ratio

The PSL rater checks the measurements the community talks about most: whether your canthal tilt is positive, neutral or negative, how evenly your facial thirds are balanced, your midface ratio, and the definition of your jawline and gonial angle, chin, eye area, lips and skin.

Looksmaxxing Tips Without Surgery

Five tips written for your face: skincare, beard and brow grooming, haircut, posture, lighting and photo angle. The AI never suggests surgery, injections or risky trends, and it never mocks or shames.

What the PSL Rater Measures, and What You Can Change

Eight criteria, each scored from 1 to 10. Bone structure is what it is; how a photo presents it is something you can work on.

CriterionWhat the AI looks atNon-surgical ways to present it better
Canthal tiltThe angle from the inner to the outer eye corner: positive, neutral or negative.Groom the tail of your brows, get enough sleep, and use soft front light so shadows don’t drag the eye corners down.
Facial thirdsBalance between the forehead, the midface and the lower third.A haircut with the right fringe or volume changes how tall the forehead looks; a beard can balance the lower third.
Midface ratioEye spacing compared with the distance from the eyes to the mouth.Shoot from farther away and crop: close wide-angle selfies stretch the midface.
Jawline & gonial angleDefinition along the jaw and the angle at the back of the jaw.Stand tall, bring your chin slightly forward and down, keep the camera at eye level and shape facial hair along the jaw.
Chin projectionHow well the chin anchors the lower third.A neat goatee or beard line, good posture and a slight chin-forward pose.
Eye area & brow ridgeEyelid exposure, the under-eye area and brow support.Brow grooming, rest and light from slightly above eye level.
Lips & philtrumLip shape and the space between the nose and the upper lip.Lip balm and a tidy mustache line.
Skin qualityClarity, tone and texture.A gentle cleanser, moisturizer and daily sunscreen, and even daylight instead of harsh overhead light.

Track Looksmaxxing Before and After

Rate a baseline photo, then rate again after a few weeks of skincare, grooming or a new haircut, always in the same light and from the same angle.

Choose Your Strongest Photo

Run a few photos through the PSL rating AI to see which angle and light show your structure best for a profile picture.

Plan a Haircut or Beard

Use your facial thirds and jawline notes to pick a cut or beard shape, then preview it on your own photo with the beard filter or the AI hairstyle changer.

Understand the PSL Scale

Curious what PSL 4, 5 or 6 looks like in an actual report? The tiers and notes make the scale concrete without forum jargon.

Get a Friendlier Second Opinion

PSL is strict. Run the same photo through the AI attractiveness test for a 1-10 face rating with styling tips, and compare the two views.

Looksmaxxing Tips for a Better PSL Photo

The AI rates the photo it sees. These changes are safe, reversible and often show up in the score.

Light From the Front

Face a window or stand in open shade. Overhead light hollows the eyes and flattens the jaw, which pulls down several criteria at once.

Camera at Eye Level, Arm’s Length or More

Close wide-angle selfies enlarge the nose and shorten the jaw. Step back, keep the lens at eye level and crop afterwards.

Groom Your Brows and Facial Hair

Brows frame the eye area and canthal tilt; a clean beard or stubble line defines the jaw and chin.

Pick a Haircut for Your Face Shape

The right length and volume balance your facial thirds. The face shape detector suggests cuts that suit your outline.

Keep a Simple Skincare Routine

A gentle cleanser, moisturizer and daily sunscreen keep skin clear and even, the one criterion that changes most with habits.

Stand Tall, Chin Slightly Forward

Good posture and a chin pushed a little forward and down sharpen the jawline in photos without any editing.
